Former India captain MS Dhoni who led the team towards its last ICC silverware in 2013 is facing a major dilemma as 2 of his ex-business partners have reportedly filed a defamation lawsuit against him in the Delhi High Court. This development comes weeks after Dhoni himself had charged them with fraud worth 15-16 crores for dishonoring a contract they signed way back in 2016.

It all started after MS Dhoni took strict actions against Aarka sports management’s head Mihir Diwakar for incurring losses of over 10 crores. Dhoni had signed a deal with the company to open an undisclosed number of cricket academies around the world in his name which never actually materialized.

In response to Dhoni’s allegations, Mihir Diwakar claimed that it was the former Indian captain who was at fault as he took money from various academies himself and never shared the percentage with the sports management company. Diwakar had also claimed that Dhoni was trying to cover up his malicious activities like criminal conspiracies and frauds and it was a way to defame Diwakar’s name in the sports industry.

And weeks after the last development, Mihir Diwakar and his wife Soumya Das have filed a defamation case against MS Dhoni at Delhi High Court with the case set for a hearing tomorrow (January 18) in front of Justice Pratibha M Singh.

The husband and wife have pleaded to the High Court to prevent MS Dhoni and his team from spreading rumors across social media platforms, creating fake reports and derogatory statements against them.

While Dhoni’s legal team had taken the cricket academy issue to a court in Ranchi, Diwakar’s entourage have gone on to the doors of the national capital’s high court. MSD’s lawyer filed cases under section 406 which refers to criminal breach and section 420 which refers to cheating or fraud.

It happened after the Aarka Sports directors failed to fulfill the clauses mentioned in the contract. And to its response, this is what Mihir Diwakar claimed via X, I clarify that there is no dues/ outstanding of MSD with me rather MSD has to pay certain amounts which have been collected from academies directly by MS Dhoni. By dint of my hard work I established, materialized, and expanded the work which has pinched him, and MSD being a big name is trying to throttle me, my business, and my social integrity.”

The biggest question that is coming up at the moment is whether will MS Dhoni be able to feature for reigning IPL champions Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming edition. In what could be again his final season in the richest cricketing league, it will be interesting to see if Dhoni’s legal tensions and issues have any impact on the field.

The 2007 and 2011 World Cup-winning captain has reportedly started to train for the new IPL season with CSK also doing very well in mini player auction that took place last month. The defamation case against MS Dhoni will be trialed for the first time in Delhi High Court tomorrow and the outcomes of it remain to be seen.
