Speculation around Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni's potential retirement has been growing, with the team on the verge of elimination from the ongoing IPL 2025 season. Former Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Suresh Raina made a huge statement regarding the retirement rumors.

MS Dhoni returned to play for the Super Kings in another IPL season. The veteran wicketkeeper-batter is the joint-most successful captain in IPL history, leading the Chennai-based franchise to five titles. He also holds the record for the most appearances in the league, having featured in 273 matches.

MS Dhoni Faces Criticism for His Batting in IPL 2025

Dhoni came into the headlines for the wrong reasons this IPL season. The wicketkeeper-batter faced heavy criticism for batting at No. 9 during a run chase against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). He has been batting lower down the order in the T20 tournament, with only a few overs left in the innings.

MS Dhoni Will Play One More IPL Season – Suresh Raina

Amid growing speculation about MS Dhoni's future in the IPL, Suresh Raina has provided a major update. He confirmed that Dhoni will continue to play for another season, putting an end to the retirement rumours.

"MS Dhoni will play one more IPL season," Raina said, as quoted by a user on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Earlier this month, Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming admitted he had no idea about MS Dhoni’s retirement plans. Fleming said that he was enjoying continuing to work with the veteran. He added that he no longer even bothers to ask Dhoni about his plans.

"I have no idea. I'm just enjoying working with him still. He is still going strong. I don't even ask [about his future] these days," Fleming said.

Chennai Super Kings' Playoff Hopes End After Loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad

Chennai Super Kings' playoff hopes almost ended after a five-wicket loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 25. It was SRH's first-ever victory at Chepauk.

SRH chose to bowl first and restricted CSK to just 154 runs. Apart from Ayush Mhatre (30 off 17) and Dewald Brevis (42 off 25), no other batter managed to score more than 25 runs. In response, Ishan Kishan (44 off 34 balls) and Kamindu Mendis (32 off 22) helped Hyderabad complete the chase in the 19th over.

CSK is at the bottom of the points table, with only two wins in nine games. They won't reach 16 points with only five matches remaining. Even if they win all matches, they will still need other results in their favor.
