MS Dhoni's Defamation Lawsuit Stays As Madras HC Turns Down Cop's Plea To Dismiss The Case

The Madras High Court has turned down the plea from IPS officer, G Sampath Kumar, requesting the defamation case filed by former Indian cricketer, MS Dhoni, to be cast aside.
Dhoni had filed a defamation lawsuit back in 2014, stating that the accused party was propagating false claims regarding the CSK skipper and his involvement in betting, spot-fixing, and match-fixing. He demanded INR 100 crores in damages from the TV media firm and others involved.

Sampath was involved in investigating the betting scam and Dhoni requested the court to deny Sampath and others from making statements and publishing them regarding the betting issue. This was done as the now 40-year-old Dhoni said that the sole intention of the media firm was to defame his name in the cricketing world.
MS Dhoni’s suit was challenged by Sampath Kumar
The now-retired Justice S Tamilvana had granted the ruling in Dhoni’s favour, disallowing anybody to make statements with regard to Dhoni. In return, Sampath filed a petition and challenged the suit back in 2014. The plea was filed with the Madras HC which has now rejected his petition.

Back in 2014, IPL was embroiled in spot-fixing controversy with Gurunath Meiyappan, the son of former BCCI President, N Srinivasan, being involved. CSK was given a two-year suspension along with Rajasthan Royals (RR). Three RR players – Ajit Chandela, S Sreesanth, and Ankeet Chavan were also banned from Cricket.
