He has been part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) since the inaugural edition of the tournament and only switched bases when the franchise was banned for a couple of years.

Dhoni guided the Chennai Super Kings to five Indian Premier League (IPL) triumphs, with the most recent one coming in 2023 when the Men in Yellow beat the Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad.

MS Dhoni is 44 and is already past his prime, but he continues to be a vital member of the CSK. Ruturaj Gaikwad has been chosen as the successor of Dhoni, but last year, when the Maharashtra star got injured, the legendary skipper had to once again step in as leader.

After the end of the season, Dhoni kept the suspense over his IPL future and didn't reveal whether he would play the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 or hang up his boots. However, now the CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan has confirmed that Dhoni won't retire.

Here's how the conversation unfolded:

Kid 1: So next year, are you planning about to win the IPL Cup?

Kid 1: Is Dhoni going to retire?

Viswanathan: No, he's not going to retire.

Kid 1: When will Dhoni retire?

Viswanathan: I'll ask him and get back to you.

Kid 1: Which new member are you going to get into your team you're planning?

Viswanathan: That we can know only when the auction register comes out. That'll be known by December first week. After that I can talk to you, you can interview me after that.

Kid 2: How do you feel to be managing director of CSK?

Viswanathan: I feel very proud to be one of the best teams in IPL.

CSK had a horrible campaign in IPL 2025

Chennai Super Kings ended their Indian Premier League 2025 campaign in the tenth position on the points table. They won just four and lost 10 matches in the season and had a Net Run Rate of -0.647.

It was the first time the Chennai Super Kings finished at the bottom of the points table in history, and also the first instance of the team missing out on playoffs for two back-to-back seasons.
