Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag believes that matching MS Dhoni‘s legacy in the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be very difficult for any skipper.
Notably, Under MS Dhoni Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have won 4 IPL Championships and have entered into 9 finals despite missing few years in IPL due to a ban.
In Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) won their 4th IPL title by defeating Eoin Morgan’s Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the final by 27 runs at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on October 15.
Virender Sehwag stated that he feels that the Legacy of captain is remembered by the number of trophies he has won. He stated:
“I think the captain’s legacy is always remembered by the number of titles he has won. He [MS Dhoni] has played nine finals, won four trophies. Matching this will be extremely difficult for any captain.
Sehwag also believes that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is the best team in the tournament and they play consistently well. He also feels Dhoni will play one more IPL.
“CSK is the best team in the tournament and they play consistent cricket.”
“They have finished at the bottom [7th spot in 2020] once, have faced a ban for two years [2017-18] but the remaining years have been brilliant. MS Dhoni’s legacy is very difficult to match. I think he has another year left in him,” Sehwag told Cricbuzz.
CSK Is Not The Team That Says ‘We Know Everything’ – Ashish Nehra
Former Indian Pacer Ashish Nehra stated that the reason behind CSK’s success is they keep improving themselves. He asserted:
“CSK is not the team that says ‘we know everything. They just keep trying to improve themselves all the time. In this tournament, the team that makes lesser mistakes has the best chance,”
Ashish Nehra added that each and every player that has been part of CSK has made a significant contribution to the team’s success over the years. Nehra elaborated:
“No doubt [the CSK players have left an unmatchable legacy]. It will be difficult to see all these players together because the next year is a mega auction year. It is still not clear whether MS Dhoni will be captaining the side, will be playing next year or not, but speaking about CSK’s legacy, every player that has come inside the team has just taken it forward. The way this team has moved forward over the years is a thing that other must-see and learn from,” Nehra said.
