Former National team selector MSK Prasad expressed his desire to see former batting legend, Rahul Dravid, join the Indian team as the head coach. The current coach, Ravi Shastri has a contract that expires at the end of the upcoming T20 World Cup and the BCCI will begin sending out advertisements for the role very soon.

While there are quite a few speculations going around that Anil Kumble and VVS Laxman are the frontrunners for the prestigious job, Prasad hopes to see Dravid apply for the job and also MS Dhoni staying on as the mentor.

I would definitely feel that going forward it should be Rahul Dravid and MS Dhoni. Rahul more as a coach and MS as a mentor. Dhoni and Rahul in the Indian team will be a fantastic thing to watch out for post-Ravi Shastri’s era,” Prasad said to TOI.

The former selector Prasad also mentioned that the reunion of MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli in the dressing room can change their fortunes around in the ICC events. Kohli will be the skipper of the Indian T20 team until the end of the T20 World Cup, and he would be keen to finish on a high.

What happens behind the doors is very very important. The strategy, homework, discussions, and planning will be done the way classwork is done. So someone like MSD being part of that homework and strategy will surely add value and strengthen the team to a greater extent. He and Virat will do wonders for India in the World T20,” Prasad said.

India begins its T20 World Cup campaign with a crucial match against arch-rivals, Pakistan, on October 24 in Dubai.
