Delhi Capitals (DC) bowler Mukesh Kumar took a stunning catch off his own bowling during the IPL 2026 match against the Mumbai Indians (MI). The right-arm pacer dismissed left-handed batter Tilak Varma for a duck with his catch in the ongoing match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday, April 4.
Delhi Capitals skipper Axar Patel opted to bowl first after winning the toss. Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya was unavailable for the match, forcing Suryakumar Yadav to lead the side. Deepak Chahar, Corbin Bosch, and Mitchell Santner replaced Pandya, Trent Boult, and Allah Ghazanfar in the starting lineup.
Mukesh Kumar’s Brilliant Caught and Bowled Sends Tilak Varma Packing
Mumbai Indians suffered an early setback as Mukesh Kumar struck twice in the same over. He dismissed Tilak Varma for 0 off 2 balls with a sharp caught-and-bowled effort, giving his team strong momentum.
Mukesh bowled a slower ball, and Tilak Varma went too early into his shot. The left-handed batter failed to control it and chipped it straight back. Mukesh reacted quickly, bending low to complete a clean catch.
Mukesh continued his strong record against Tilak. In 5 innings, he has conceded just 26 runs in 15 balls and dismissed him 4 times, with an average of 6.5 and a strike rate of 173.3. The early breakthroughs put Mumbai Indians under pressure inside the powerplay, giving Delhi Capitals a strong start.

Mukesh Kumar Removes Ryan Rickelton for 9 Runs
Earlier in the third over, Mukesh Kumar provided the early breakthrough. He dismissed Ryan Rickelton, who scored 9, after forcing a mistimed shot that went high in the air. Axar Patel completed a simple catch at mid-off.
The wicket came from a good-length delivery angled across the batter. Rickelton tried to hit across the line but got a top edge, resulting in his dismissal.
At the end of the powerplay, Mumbai were 41 for 2 in 6 overs. While Delhi dominated the early phase, Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav began rebuilding the innings for the visitors.
At the time of writing, MI were at 69/2, with Rohit (34 runs off 24 balls) and Suryakumar (25 off 17) at the crease. The duo added an unbeaten 51 runs off 37 balls.
Hardik Pandya captained Mumbai Indians in their IPL 2026 opener against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium. However, Suryakumar Yadav is leading the team for the match against Delhi Capitals.
Pandya had earlier missed a game due to a one-match ban for repeated slow over-rate offences in IPL 2024. Suryakumar Yadav captained the side in a match against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium last year.
Suryakumar has now led Mumbai Indians on multiple occasions. His first experience as captain came in IPL 2023 during a home match against Kolkata Knight Riders when Rohit Sharma was unavailable.
