A number of IPL franchises are reportedly trying to rope in Rahul Dravid as their head coach ahead of the next season of the tournament.

The former India skipper's tenure as India's head coach came to an end last month following the conclusion of the T20 World Cup in Barbados. The Indian team gave Rahul Dravid a fitting farewell by winning the T20 World Cup after a long gap of 17 years. It was Rahul Dravid's first World Cup trophy as a coach or a player with the senior Indian team.

The legendary batsman was the head coach of the Indian team from 2021 to 2024. During his tenure, Team India enjoyed good success across formats. Last year, India clinched the Asia Cup and reached the final of the ODI World Cup and the World Test Championship.

Dravid's tenure ended with a victory in the T20 World Cup final. Dravid had the option to re-apply for the post of India's head coach but the former cricketer decided otherwise. He wanted to leave the job in order to spend more time with his family.

IPL giants eye Rahul Dravid:

Rahul Dravid could be seen as a head coach again next year during the IPL. As per reports, several franchises are eyeing the former India head coach. According to recent reports, Rajasthan Royals are interested in having Dravid back as their head coach.

In the past, Dravid not only played for the franchise but also plied his trade as a coach for them. And Rajasthan Royals are not the only team that is trying to secure Dravid's services. According to a report in Cricbuzz, five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians are also in the race to rope in Dravid.

Mumbai Indians are reportedly trying to part ways with their current head coach Mark Boucher who has failed to take the team to the top in the last two seasons. In 2023, Mumbai made it to the playoffs before failing to advance ahead of the league stage this year.

The IPL 2024 season was also marred by a number of controversies and Mumbai Indians will be seeking a new start next year. And there is a good chance they might go for Rahul Dravid as their next head coach. Dravid is known for his man-management and Mumbai Indians would love to have him in the dressing room to sort things out after a forgettable campaign this year.
