Former Indian captain MS Dhoni has reacted to India's win over South Africa in the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The Men in Blue, under Rohit Sharma's captaincy, broke the ICC trophy draught after 11 years and won their 2nd T20 World Cup title in Barbados.

Interestingly, MS Dhoni was the last captain who won India an ICC trophy when the Boys in Blue beat England in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2013. Before that, MS Dhoni had also led the Indian team to the ICC World Cup 2011 title and the ICC T20 World Cup 2007 title.

Rohit Sharma became only the 3rd Indian captain after Kapil Dev and Dhoni to lift an ICC trophy for team India. Fortune favored the Indian team right from the start as Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first in the final against South Africa.

Virat Kohli and Rohit got the Indian team off to a flying start as Kohli took on Marco Jansen in the opening over of the game. However, South Africa pulled back the string in the 2nd over of the game itself. Aiden Markram threw the ball to Keshav Maharaj and the latter picked up both Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant.

Kagiso Rabada dented the Men in Blue with another mighty blow in the form of Suryakumar Yadav. Rahul Dravid surprised cricket fans and pundits by sending in Axar Patel to bat alongside Virat Kohli as the number ahead of Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya, and Ravindra Jadeja.

Axar didn't disappoint as he shielded Virat Kohli and counter-attacked South Africa, stitching a decent partnership with Kohli. As destiny had it, Axar's knock ended with a spectacular run out by Quinton de Kock.

Virat Kohli continued with his merry ways alongside Shivam Dube. After scoring his first half-century, Kohli took the attack to the opposition. Later on, Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja's handy contribution took India's total to 176-7 in their 20 overs.

Indian bowlers defend a below-par total vs South Africa

Defending the total, Indian seamers were on point with Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh picking up initial wickets. Tristan Stubbs and Quinton de Kock smashed the Indian spinners followed by a brutal onslaught from Heinrich Klassen.

At the 15-over mark, South Africa were way ahead in the game but the Indian pace troika of Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Hardik Pandya broke South Africa's back and saw the end of India's ICC trophy draught.

Eventually, team India won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 title by 7 runs with Hardik successfully defending 16 runs in the final over. Virat Kohli was named the Man of the Match whereas Jasprit Bumrah clinched the Man of the Tournament award.

MS Dhoni reacts to India's win

The magnitude of India's victory can be sensed in the celebrations across the country. However, one man who always shies away from expressing emotions, the former Indian captain, MS Dhoni, also couldn't control himself and reacted to India's win.

He took to Instagram and wrote, "WORLD CUP CHAMPIONS 2024.My heart rate was up,well done on being calm, having the self belief and doing what u guys did. From all the Indians back home and everywhere in the world a big thank you for bringing the World Cup Home.CONGRATULATIONS.arreeee thanks for the priceless birthday gift"
