N Jagadeesan, the opening batsman for Tamil Nadu, on Monday set a number of records when he became the first cricketer in history to score five consecutive List A hundred.

While competing in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022, Jagadeesan kept on his incredible play against Arunachal Pradesh, first smashing a century off just 77 balls before breaking the previous record for the highest individual score in List A history.

After registering the second-fastest double-century in the history of the format (off 114 deliveries), the fastest by an Indian player, he went on to smash a massive 277 off 141 deliveries during an incredible blitz in which he notched 25 fours and 15 sixes.

He was removed in the 42nd over, just missing out on becoming the first player in one-day cricket history to hit a triple century. The 26-year-old, though, had already broken the previous benchmark for the greatest score in List A history at that point.

Thus, the Indian batsman smashed a record that had stood for 22 years. It had been held by Englishman Alistair Brown, who in 2002 while playing for Surrey against Glamorgan, scored 268 runs to break the previous mark for the highest individual score in List A cricket.

N Jagadeesan breaks Rohit Sharma’s record:

In the 41st over of the Vijay Hazare Trophy Elite Group C match between Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka, N Jagadeesan surpassed Rohit Sharma’s score of 264 during the India versus. Sri Lanka match at the Eden Gardens in 2014. By that point, Jagadeesan had scored 24 boundaries and 14 sixes.

Soon after, he beat England batsman Alistair Brown’s previous world record of 268 for the highest score in List A cricket (50-over format).

In the 42nd over, Chetan Anand removed Jagadeesan for 277 (141 balls) after he had hit 25 boundaries and 15 sixes. The chance for Jagadeesan to score a triple century in List A cricket and become the first man to do so in the sport’s history was gone.

In the breathtaking run-fest in Bengaluru on November 21, Jagadeesan, one of the few names released by Chennai Super Kings ahead of the IPL 2023 mini-auction, contributed to numerous world records. In List A cricket, Jagadeesan broke the previous record for the most consecutive hundreds with 5, surpassing Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara, South Africa’s Alviro Petersen, and Karnataka’s Devdutt Padikkal.
