Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh launched a scathing attack towards the ICC for the existing rules on the Decision Review System (DRS) after Pakistan’s loss against South Africa in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
The India great was not impressed with Tabraiz Shamsi’s survival after being hit on the pad by a Haris Rauf delivery towards the end of the game. With Pakistan needing 1 wicket to win the game, Rauf trapped Shamsi in front of the wicket and the Pakistan fielders went up in unison for a lbw decision. The on-field umpire, however, gave his decision in the favour of the batter.
Pakistan decided to take the DRS call and the replays showed that the ball was indeed hitting the leg-stump. However, the point of contact between the ball and the stump was less than 50 percent. As a result, it was given as the umpire’s decision, and the original decision was upheld. South Africa went on to win the game by 1 wicket.
Following the incident, Harbhajan Singh took to X to express his views. Venting his frustration, the former off-spinner slammed the ICC for lack of clarity on the rules. He asked the governing body to pick one between technology or umpire for decision-making. He also stated that the decision should always be out if the ball is hitting the stumps.

After Harbhajan Singh responded to a post from Harsha Bhogle on the same matter, another user posted a clip in his reply where former England skipper Nasser Hussain explained the rules about umpire’s call. The World Cup winner noticed the reply and came up with a bizarre response.
He alleged that Nasser Hussain was paid to speak in favor of the technology and wrote: “Paid to speak for tech to show tech is right .he is suggesting tech is right @imVkohli isn’t Coz tech must have paid the broadcaster to show how important is tech .. Ok if the tech is right go with tech y do u need umpires to stick to the their own decisions? Utterly nonsense .. use 1 tech or umpire .. don’t make people fool who love this game blindly”
