Kathmandu Knights, on Tuesday (December 27), thrashed Janakpur Royals by 53 runs to get back to winning ways in the ongoing Nepal T20 League. Thanks to the win, the Knights have moved to the second spot while the Royals have dropped to the third spot in the points table after suffering their first defeat of the tournament.

The Knights had entered the game on the back of a 4-wicket loss to Far West United. The Royals, on the other hand, had won both of their first two games.

Kathmandu Knights put up a huge total:

Gyanendra Malla’s decision to bat first after winning the toss turned out to be right as the Knights put up the highest total of the tournament. Riding on in-form Alex Blake’s fifty, they scored 208 for 6 in the allotted 20 overs.

Virandeep Singh and Lokesh Bam gave the Knights a fast start by adding 41 runs in just 22 balls before the latter departed. It was followed by a 62-run stand between Singh and Blake.

Pawan Sarraf broke the stand when he sent back Singh for 49. Ryan Burl (2) and Malla (1) could not do much with the bat but it did not affect the Knights’ momentum. Blake and Azmatullah Omarzai played fine knocks to power their team to a strong finish. While Blake was out for 83 off 43 balls in the final over, Omarzai remained unbeaten on 43 off just 15 balls.

Janakpur Royals’ chase:

Chasing the improbable total, the Royals were all out for 155 on the final ball of the match. The Royals never looked in contention to chase down the total as the Knights registered a comfortable win.

Sarraf (24), Sundeep Jora (26), and Samiullah Shinwari (29) got the starts but none of them could convert it into a big score. For the Knights, Omarzai was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3 for 25 while Basir Ahamad claimed 2 wickets.
