New Zealand bowling coach Shane Jurgensen is well aware of the threat that Indian keeper-batsman Rishabh Pant poses ahead of the ICC World Test Championship final. India and New Zealand will lock horns in the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship final in Southampton, beginning on the 18th of June. Shane Jurgensen claimed that while Pant bats with a positive mindset, he also offers wicket-taking opportunities.

Rishabh Pant has been in sensational form in the last few months in Test cricket. After playing an instrumental role in the historic series win in Australia, the 23-year old also had an unforgettable home series against England. The southpaw has a formidable record in red-ball cricket, having smashed 1358 runs in 20 Tests at 45.27 with three centuries and six fifties.

Shane Jurgensen pointed out that Rishabh Pant is a dangerous player and could turn the game on its head, given how well he did it in Australia and against England. But Jurgensen observed that his positive mindset gives way to plenty of wicket-taking opportunities as well. He believes that the Kiwi bowlers need to execute their plans well, making life difficult for the southpaw, who Jurgensen thinks could become unstoppable.

“Well, Pant is an extremely dangerous player who can change the game on its head. We saw how well he did it against Australia and England. He’s extremely positive-minded, but with that comes potentially the opportunity to take his wicket. Our bowlers need to execute well, stay calm and make it as difficult as possible for Pant to score runs. He’s certainly a free-flowing batsman and a tough one to stop, which we should keep in mind,” Jurgensen said as quoted by News18.com.

Shane Jurgensen hopes that playing with Virat Kohli in the IPL, Kyle Jamieson might have picked a thing or two leading to the final. The 45-year old said that the towering right-arm seamer’s career has started outstandingly and has an opportunity of preparing well for the decider with two Tests against England. Jamieson has 36 wickets from six Tests at 13.28 with four fifers and a ten-wicket haul. The 26-year old also has a fifty to his name and dismissed the likes of Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara.

“Well, Kyle has played with Virat at RCB and no doubt they would have exchanged some comments potentially leading into this final. So interesting times ahead. I’m sure it’s going to be great to watch Kyle. His Test career too has been outstanding so far. He has got a great opportunity to prepare really well in the lead-up to the final, beginning with the two Tests versus England,” he added.
