New Zealand vs Afghanistan Team Analysis

New Zealand

This is New Zealand's campaign opener in the T20 World Cup 2024. several of the players played in the recently concluded IPL 2024. They played the last T20I cricket against Pakistan and they drew 2-2. Before that, they were whitewashed against Australia in a T20I series 3-0.

The Kiwis have been able to retain the core very well. Kane Williamson is leading his team in his third T210I World Cup since 2016. In the last two editions of the World Cup, they made it to the semi-finals.

Afghanistan

Afghanistan is led by Rashid Khan in this tournament. He was announced as their T20I skipper ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022. He is their biggest matchwinner in the side. In their opener against Uganda, they scored 183 with the bat and bowled out the opposition for just 58.

Pitch Conditions

31 T20I matches have been played at this venue and matches have been won and lost by batting and bowling first in equal share. Afghanistan scored 183 batting first against Uganda.

The pitch was a perfect pitch for T20I cricket in the last match. If the pitch remains the same we can be in for a good game. However, the weather forecast for this match does not look good with overhead conditions and rain expected.

Afghanistan players got a very good hit out in the first game against Uganda. The Kiwi players have also had a few practice sessions leading into their first game.

Tactical Acumen

Kane Williamson is a very experienced captain having led the team for the last few years now. He has a wealth of experience playing against and along with Rashid. Rashid, on the other hand, is still a fresh international captain.

However, he has played T20I cricket all across the globe. Having played across different venues and conditions, he now had a very good idea about the conditions and will need to play accordingly.
