The 38-year-old Indian umpire Nitin Menon, who hails from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, is all set to make his debut as a neutral umpire, later this month, in Sri Lanka after being retained in the ICC Elite Panel.

Indian umpire Nitin Narendra Menon, who represented Madhya Pradesh in List A cricket, has officiated in the Ranji Trophy and the Sheffield Shield in Australia. In June 2020, he was promoted to the Elite Panel of ICC Umpires, replacing Nigel Llong, to become the only third Indian to enter the club after S Venkataraghavan and S Ravi.

However, Nitin was officiating international games only in India as the International Cricket Council (ICC) had allowed local umpires to do the job due to the Covid-19 pandemic and travel restrictions.

With the Covid-19 cases being declined all over the world and things going back to normal the International Cricket Council has resumed normal service with Australian umpire Paul Reiffel performing his duties in the three-match Test series between England and New Zealand in England.

The 38-year-old Nitin Menon has received a one-year extension from the International Cricket Council, a BCCI official told PTI.

Also, the same BCCI official said that Nitin Menon, who is currently the only Indian in the 11-member Elite Panel of Umpires, will be making his maiden appearance as a neutral umpire in Sri Lanka later this month.

“The ICC recently gave a one-year extension to Menon who has been our leading umpire over the last three to four years. You will also see him making his debut as a neutral umpire later this month,” the official told PTI.

The 38-year-old is currently officiating in the five-match T20 International (T20I) series between India National Cricket Team and South Africa National Cricket Team.

After completing his duties in the series he will directly travel to Sri Lanka for the two-match Test series between Sri Lanka National Cricket Team and Australia National Cricket Team, which will begin from June 29 in Galle.

Also, no change has been made to International Cricket Council (ICC) Elite Panel. The International Cricket Council (ICC) Elite Panel includes Nitin Menon from India, Aleem Dar from Pakistan, Chris Gaffaney from New Zealand, Kumara Dharmasena from Sri Lanka, Marais Erasmus from South Africa, Michael Gough, Richard Illingworth and Richard Kettleborough (all three from England), Paul Reiffel and Rod Tucker from Australia and Joel Wilson from the West Indies.
