Indian all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy failed to make any significant impact in the recent home series against South Africa, but he managed to impress everyone in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025. However, Nitish Kumar Reddy’s efforts could not save Andhra from facing crushing defeat.
Reddy’s spectacular hat trick gave Andhra a glimmer of hope, but Madhya Pradesh bounced back brilliantly to chase down 113 and win by four wickets in their opening Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 Super League match at the DY Patil Academy on Friday (December 12).

Andhra blow early chance as Madhya Pradesh secures comfortable win in Super League
The situation worsened for Madhya Pradesh when Venkatesh Iyer got out, leaving the team struggling at 37 for 4, giving Andhra a strong chance to take control of the Super League match. However, despite the dream start, Andhra couldn’t maintain the momentum.
Rishabh Chouhan and Rahul Batham took charge of MP’s chase with a calm and steady 73-run partnership for the fifth wicket against Andhra. Chouhan played a stunning knock of 47 runs off 43 balls, while Batham guided the chase with an unbeaten 35 off 32 balls.
Chouhan and Batham’s effort ensured Madhya Pradesh chased down the target safely and won the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 Super League match by four wickets with 15 balls to spare. With this win, MP earned the crucial four points in the tournament.
Andhra collapses for 112 as Nitish Kumar Reddy’s resistance goes in vain
Earlier in the game, Nitish Kumar Reddy had also contributed with the bat for Andhra. He added 50 runs for the third wicket with wicketkeeper-batter KS Bharat after Andhra had slipped to 7 for 2. Bharat was the top scorer with 39 runs before he was dismissed by Venkatesh Iyer.
Bharat’s dismissal triggered a collapse, and Andhra lost eight wickets for just 55 runs, eventually being bowled out for 112 in 19.1 overs. Madhya Pradesh’s bowlers bowled excellently as four Andhra batters were dismissed without scoring at the DY Patil Academy.
Shivam Shukla led the attack, taking 4 wickets for 23 runs, while Tripuresh Singh picked up 3 wickets for 31 runs. Batham also scalped 2 wickets against Andhra.
Looking ahead, Andhra will face Punjab in their next Super League match. On the other hand, Madhya Pradesh are scheduled to take on Jharkhand on December 14, aiming to build on their strong start to the tournament.
