Indian all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy was included in the Indian playing XI, replacing the spin-bowling all-rounder Axar Patel, who made his Test comeback at the Eden Gardens for the first match against South Africa. However, fans have bashed him for not being of any use to the side.

India might have been one of the most dangerous-looking Test sides when they faced England during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy earlier this year, but they have lost their dream run in the home series against the defending champions of the WTC.

Though India struggled with some major upsets under Shubman Gill, which include the Lord's upset during the England tour, they were not expected to be whitewashed in the home series by the Proteas.

Nitish Kumar Reddy's disappointing form in whites continues

The young Indian all-rounder first came into notice when he had a promising IPL season with the bat and ball for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024, where they ended up as the finishers of the tournament. Reddy played several crucial knocks throughout the middle order.

After the IPL showdown, he was picked in India's T20I side, where he put on a convincing show against Bangladesh. However, the biggest perk of his career came in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Reddy seemed to have loved batting on those bouncy Australian tracks where other Indian batters struggled.

With a pile of 40s and a maiden Test hundred, Reddy became India's trustworthy asset of Test cricket. However, ever since then, he has been in awful form in the red-ball format and has been disappointed with his performance in England and now in India as well.

With just 18 runs in the first innings, Reddy still dared to play a reverse sweep against Simon Harmer and was eventually caught off for a duck in the second innings. As a result of this, the Indian lower order crumbled in no time.

India suffer a second whitewash under Gautam Gambhir

After the humiliating defeat to New Zealand, which was just the second Test series for India after Gautam Gambhir took over as the head coach of India, the recently concluded South Africa series marked the second home series whitewash for the Indian team.

Under Rohit Sharma's captaincy, India had lost the New Zealand home series 3-0, and now, under Shubman Gill's leadership and in his absence, Rishabh Pant, the vice captain, led India to lose the South Africa series with a 2-0 scoreline.

This has all been blamed many times on Gautam Gambhir's inconsistent decisions and his bias towards players while sidelining several crucial and better players of the format.
