No Chance!! Ricky Ponting Slams Everyone Suggesting Cameron Green As A Replacement For David Warner

Former Australian Batting Legend and 3-time ICC Cricket World Cup winner Ricky Ponting opted against the name of youngster Cameron Green and said a clear no when he was asked about the All-Rounder becoming the possible long-term replacement for David Warner after he retired from Test cricket.
The 37-year-old Left-Handed explosive batter is taking part in his final Test series against Pakistan at home in a 3-match Test series in which Australia has already claimed a 1-0 lead. The 2nd Test is currently being played at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground with Steve Smith and Mitchell Marsh at the crease in the final session of Day 3.
Warner laid the foundation for an Aussie win at Perth by 360 runs after scoring 164 runs which helped Australia post a total of 487 in the 1st innings. In response, Pakistan had scored 271 in the 2nd innings while the hosts declared 233 runs in the 3rd inning.
Pakistan received a target of 450 runs but they were folded out by the Aussie bowling line-up for just 89 runs with Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood, picking 3 wickets each whereas Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon accounted for 2 and 1 wicket respectively.
As Australia looks on course to win the 2nd Test as well, the main question that is looming large for them is who will be the long-term replacement for David Warner after the 3rd Test at Sydney Cricket Ground from January 3rd. Among the names put up by the Australian media is 24-year-old All-Rounder Cameron Green who made his Test debut back in 2020 at Adelaide against Virat Kohli’s India.
Since then, Cameron Green has played 23 Test matches including 2 Ashes series, both home and away. He came into the spotlight, especially during the 2022 Ashes Series at home where he scored 228 across 4 Tests and 7 innings. It was in that very series when his batting underwent a little tweak after Ricky Ponting had criticized his technique.
Ponting claimed mid-way during the series that Cameron Green was unable to go for big runs because his pre-ball trigger movement was not correct and that he was more focused on avoiding losing his wicket through LBW. Green had taken up Ponting’s advice and the all-rounder himself stated that it helped.
However, Ponting did not approve his name at all when asked if Green could be a long-term replacement for Warner with the 2-time World Cup Winner as Captain saying that it was time for the selectors to go on searching for a new opener.
“No chance (on Green’s name). Time to go back and find Australia’s next best opening batsman with the India Test series and Ashes in mind.” – Ponting said.
Ricky Ponting Backs Cameron Bancroft As Favorite To Replace Warner On Long-Term Basis
Ricky Ponting while speaking to a local outlet in Australia, backed Cameron Bancroft as the best possible replacement for David Warner in the long run. At the moment, Bancroft’s name is in discussion along with Matt Renshaw and Marcus Harris to take up the opening spot that Warner has donned since 2011 for next year’s 2-match Test series against West Indies at home.
Ponting believes that Bancroft has the best chance of cutting, given his domestic first-class performance since the last 2 seasons has been nothing short of sensational. He was the highest run-getter in Sheffield Shield last year, scoring 945 runs at 59.06 of average and he is also the leading scorer in the ongoing season with 512 runs.
