Former Indian cricketer and renowned commentator Wasim Jaffer has shared his opinion on Team India's spin bowling combination as the team gears up for the crucial Super-8 match against Australia in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in St. Lucia on June 24.

Jaffer, emphasizing the balance between batting depth and bowling options, highlighted the challenge of fielding both wrist-spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal in the same playing XI due to their limited batting contributions in the remainder of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.

India can’t play Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal together at T20 World Cup 2024: Wasim Jaffer

Chahal is yet to get a game in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, and now with Ravindra Jadeja’s struggle with the ball, calls are made for the Indian leg-spinner’s inclusion in the playing XI, but Jaffer doesn’t feel it will be a good idea to have Kul-Cha in the same line-up.

However, Jaffer acknowledged Jadeja's recent dip in bowling form, but he stressed that the left-arm spinner's experience and all-round capabilities give him an edge over Chahal. The cricket pundit said that Jadeja alongside Kuldeep and Axar Patel bolstered Men in Blue’s batting lineup while maintaining a potent spin attack while stressing the importance of having depth in batting in the T20Is.

However, the former Indian opener admitted that both Kuldeep and Chahal are talented spinners, but the team's composition might allow for only one of them to feature in the playing XI to strike the right balance between bowling attack and batting strength in the crucial phase of the ICC event.

Wasim Jaffer said on his YouTube channel: “India can’t play Kuldeep and Chahal together because that would make their tail longer. Even though Jadeja is a bit out of form with the ball, he is an experienced campaigner. The ball will turn and so you will play Kuldeep, Jadeja and Axar which will also give you batting depth, which is crucial in T20 cricket. You can only play one of Kuldeep or Chahal.”

India have to play the same fearless brand of cricket: Wasim Jaffer

Meanwhile, the cricket analyst has stressed the importance of the Indian cricket team continuing to play a fearless brand of cricket in the ongoing T20 World Cup in 2024.

Jaffer warned the Men in Blue against reverting to a defensive mindset, saying they should continue to maintain their aggressive and fearless approach as the tournament approaches its business end.

As India set to face Australia in their last Super-8 game, Jaffer said that their key to success will be starting the upcoming games with a positive mindset, as adopting a proactive attitude will be crucial to clinching the T20 World Cup trophy.

Jaffer signed off by saying, “They have to play the same fearless brand of cricket that they have been playing and shouldn't fall back on their defensive game. They should take the game on and begin with a positive mindset and only then I feel they will win this T20 trophy.”
