Nominees For ICC Player Of The Month Award For January 2022 Announced

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled the names of the men’s and women’s nominees for the ICC Player of the Month Award for January 2022.

The first men’s player to be nominated for the ICC Player Of The Month was South Africa’s U19 star Dewald Brevis. The player called the next AB de Villiers or ‘Baby AB’, impressed everyone with his all-around brilliance in the ICC U-19 World Cup 2022 in the Caribbean.

Brevis broke the record of most runs in one edition of the U19 World Cup, as he made 506 runs at an outstanding average of 84.33. He scored two hundred and three fifties in his six appearances, and also picked up seven wickets at 28.57.

The next nominee is Bangladesh’s Ebadot Hossain who picked nine wickets in two Test matches against New Zealand, where the visitors registered a historic first-ever victory in the format over the Kiwis. He registered figures of 6/46 in the first Test and helped Bangladesh to a historic victory in New Zealand, their first in the country.

The third and final men’s nominee is South Africa’s Keegan Petersen, who thanks to his amazing batting performance against India in the three-Test series, won the Player of the Series award. Batting at no.3, Petersen amassed 244 runs during the series at an average of 61.

Chamari Athapaththu, Deandra Dottin And Heather Knight Nominated For the ICC Women’s Player Of The Month Award

Along with the men’s nominees for the ICC Player of the Month award, the ICC also revealed the names of the Women’s Player of the Month nominees as well.

Sri Lanka skipper Chamari Athapaththu finished as the leading run-scorer in the Commonwealth Games Qualifiers in January, helping her side win the tournament and seal their place in the Games later this year. She made 221 runs at a staggering average of 56.25. She also picked up four wickets while maintaining a mean economy rate of 6.75.

West Indies’ Deandra Dottin had an amazing series against South Africa, scoring 187 runs in two matches against the Proteas, including an unbeaten 150 at the Wanderers. Her innings consisted of 18 fours and four huge sixes.

England captain Heather Knight made 216 runs in the one-off Test of the multi-format Women’s Ashes against Australia. She made 168* in the first innings, the second-highest score by a captain in the history of Women’s Tests.
