The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed former India offspinner Nooshin Al Khadeer as the interim head coach of the women’s cricket team for the Bangladesh tour. Nooshin Al Khadeer earlier worked as the coach of the Indian women’s team in various tournaments.

Nooshin Al Khadeer had a successful tenure as the coach of the Indian women’s team. She was the coach for the Indian Women’s squad in the U19 World Cup in South Africa earlier this year. India won the title in the Emerging Women’s Asia Cup 2023 in Hong Kong under her guidance.

Earlier, there were reports suggesting that former Mumbai cricketer Amol Mazumdar would be named as the next head coach of the women’s team. A Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising Sulakshana Naik, Ashok Malhotra, and Jatin Paranjape had recommended Mazumdar’s name for the position.

However, recent reports indicate that the board will take more time before making an official announcement regarding Mazumdar’s appointment. He will not be travelling with the women’s squad for the upcoming Bangladesh tour, where India is scheduled to play three ODIs and as many T20Is.

“Post the Bangladesh tour, there’s a break of a few months before the Indian women’s team plays international cricket. We have time,” The Times of India quoted a BCCI source as saying.

The Indian women’s cricket team has been without a head coach since Ramesh Powar’s departure last year. Former India all-rounder Hrishikesh Kanitkar served as the interim coach after Ramesh Powar’s exit. The BCCI is set to make an announcement on the head coach in the coming days.

The Indian women’s cricket team is set to gather in Mumbai before their departure to Bangladesh. The support staff for the Bangladesh tour will consist of coaches from the National Cricket Academy, namely Apurva Desai, Rajib Dutta, and Subhadeep Ghosh. The tour is scheduled to begin on July 9.
