Former India player Dinesh Karthik has revealed the name of the toughest Indian bowler that Bangladesh have faced in the ongoing Test series. While everyone was expecting Jasprit Bumrah or Ravichandran Ashwin, Karthik came up with the name of Akash Deep.
Indian bowlers have done a good job this series. In the first Test at Chennai, they bowled out Bangladesh for 149 and 234 across the two innings. While seamers led the way in the first innings by picking up 8 wickets between them, spinners picked up 9 wickets in the second innings.
Youngster Akash Deep was impressive as he picked up two wickets off successive balls in the first innings. The 27-year-old shattered the stumps of Zakir Hasan and Mominul Haque to start a collapse for Bangladesh.
Dinesh Karthik reveals the toughest Indian bowler that Bangladesh have faced
While doing the commentary during the first session of the second Test between India and Bangladesh, Dinesh Karthik revealed that it was Akash Deep against whom Bangladesh had the most difficulties during the ongoing series.
It was a huge surprise as Karthik named Akash Deep despite the presence of other world-class bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja in the team.
Dinesh Karthik further said that he got the information from Bangladesh's legendary opening batter and former captain Tamim Iqbal, who is also doing commentary this year. Iqbal announced his retirement from all forms of cricket last year.
Akash Deep's strikes give India early inroads
Akash Deep picked up two out of the first three wickets to fall for Bangladesh on Day 1 of the Kanpur Test. After the Bangladesh openers came out unscathed from the threatening new ball spell from Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep produced two wickets in quick succession to rock Bangladesh.
He first dismissed Zakir Hasan for a 24-ball duck and then trapped Shadman Islam in front of the wickets. After the umpire termed it not out, the decision was reviewed by Rohit Sharma and it turned out to be correct and the batter was given out.
Ravichandran Ashwin later picked up the wicket of Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto as he trapped him in front for a well-made 31. Bangladesh 107-3 at stumps on Day 1 as only 35 overs could be bowled on Day 1.
Rain affects Day 1
Earlier, the start of the match was delayed by an hour due to the wet ground conditions at Green Park. The play was stopped well before the closing time which resulted in the loss of a significant amount of overs. The play will start half an hour earlier in the remaining days now.
Earlier, Akash Deep was expected to be benched for this match in favor of an extra spinner due to the black soil surface in Kanpur. But after looking at the surface and the overcast conditions, Rohit Sharma opted for the combination of three seamers and two spinners, just like in Chennai.
