Not Jasprit Bumrah! Spinners to bowl death overs for India in T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8s, claims Ravindra Jadeja

The senior India National Cricket Team left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has claimed that the spinners of India's 15-man squad could be seen bowling the death overs for the side in the upcoming Super 8 stage of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024.

India, as expected, have made it to the Super 8s of the T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and USA from group 1 along with the United States of America. Notably, Pakistan were one of the favorites to make it to the next round from this group but back-to-back defeats at the hands of the co-hosts USA and arch-rivals Men In Blue made things difficult for them.

The Rohit Sharma-led side finished unbeaten in the group stage and they won 3 out of 4 matches with one match being abandoned against Canada due to the wet outfield. They started off their campaign on a high by thumping the Irish Team by 8 wickets with 46 balls remaining on June 5.

Then came the biggest clash of the T20 World Cup 2024 when India went head-to-head with their arch-rivals and it was absolutely nail-biter encounter, although a low-scoring one. On June 9, the Indian batters failed to put up a great performance and they could only post 119 runs on the board. The bowling unit of the team, however, dominated the Pakistan batters and restricted them to 113 to help India win by 6 runs. 

India's third match was against the USA on June 12 and the co-hosts put up a good fight. Despite the USA giving their best they weren't able to trouble India a lot as the visitors registered a comprehensive 7-wicket win.

After facing the challenge of pace-friendly pitches in the USA, India will now have to deal with spin-friendly surfaces as they move to the West Indies for the Super 8 stage.

Speaking to Star Sports about playing in West Indies, Ravindra Jadeja stated that the tracks on offer will be on a slower and drier side, which is a great sign for the spinners. He went on to claim that the Indian spinners could operate in the death overs as well. He stated: 

"Whenever we play in the West Indies, the wicket remains a bit slow and dry. The match timing is also in the morning so spinners will have help. Even in India, there are many wickets where spinners get help. So it is a good thing that spinners will get help here in the middle overs. You could see spinners being used in the death overs as well."

When India's premier wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav spoke about the conditions, he was on the same page with Ravindra Jadeja. According to Kuldeep, the pitches will provide enough assistance to the spin bowlers in the West Indies. He said:

"The spinners do get help in the West Indies and so I think four spinners are picked in the squad. In this format, the bowlers' length becomes crucial and I have said this many times. I had played the T20I series against West Indies last year and it was a good series for the spinners so I expect similar pitches."
