Australia Test and ODI captain Pat Cummins has given his weight behind the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide to host all the day-night Tests in Australia from now onwards. The ground has hosted the most no. of day-night Tests so far.

Adelaide Oval has hosted 7 out of 22 day-night Test matches played so far. Interestingly, Australia boasts a terrific 100 percent record on this ground as they have won all the matches played here so far.

The first ever day-night Test in the history of Test cricket was also played on this ground when Australia emerged victorious by defeating New Zealand by 3 wickets. Apart from Adelaide, Brisbane, Hobart, and Perth have also hosted day-night Tests in Australia so far.

Pat Cummins wants Adelaide to host all day-night Test matches in Australia

The high success rate of Adelaide Oval has prompted Australian captain Pat Cummins to put his weight behind the ground to be Australia's home for day-night Tests. During a chat with the reporters in CA’s Play Cricket Week launch in Sydney on Monday, Cummins stated that Adelaide Oval has been consistent and is perfect for a day-night Test.

“Adelaide do (pink-ball Tests) really well. The main thing that you’ll hear from all the players, and it’s super consistent, is you’ve got to get the conditions right for a pink-ball Test,” Cummins told the reporters.

Adelaide Oval is the same venue where Australia dismissed India for just 36 runs in the second innings of the first Test of the 2020-21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. As a result, Australia won that match by 8 wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the series. However, India launched a historic comeback to win two out of the next three Tests to take the series 2-1.

"Adelaide every year has got it spot on" - Pat Cummins

Cummins further mentioned that the conditions matter a lot in day-night Tests and Adelaide Oval has provided great conditions so far.

“Pink-ball Test matches can be a wonderful balance between bat and ball, or if the conditions aren’t quite right, they can be quite boring Test matches. Adelaide has always done it really well, so if they move it away from Adelaide, whoever takes that up, as long as you get the conditions right, it shouldn’t be too different,” the 31-year-old fast bowler said.

“If (the pink ball) gets too soft it’s like a one-day ball, it can get really benign. It just reacts a little bit differently to a red ball. As I said, Adelaide every year has got it spot on,” he added.

Next Day-Night Test at Adelaide Oval

The Adelaide Oval will also host the day-night Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 later this year. After India's shocking performance on this ground last time around, it will be interesting to see how they perform here this time.

Earlier this year, the Gabba, Brisbane hosted the famous pink-ball Test between Australia and West Indies. The match produced a stunning result as West Indies caused a huge upset to defeat Australia by 8 runs. West Indies' young pace sensation Shamar Joseph bowled a sensational spell of 7-68 in the match to turn the match in his team's favor.
