His blistering knock of 57 off just 31 balls in his maiden international innings may have ended on a controversial note but Suryakumar Yadav isn’t really disappointed as he feels that a few things are not under his control.
Suryakumar Yadav announced his arrival to the International arena with a whirlwind knock of 57 in which he displayed his 360-degree strokeplay to the hilt.
His innings with laced with authoritative and sumptuous strokeplay before it was cut short by a controversial decision.
It all happened during the second ball of the 14th oven when Suryakumar Yadav swept Sam Curran over short fine-leg.
Mark Wood claimed the catch and the on-field umpire proceeded to give the soft-signal as ‘out’. The replays indicated that some part of the ball may have hit the ground but the third umpire could not overrule the soft-signal citing lack of conclusive evidence.
“Regarding my dismissal, not really disappointed because few things are not in my control. Things that are in my control, I try to control that and things outside that, are not in my hands,” Suryakumar Yadav said at the post-match press conference on Thursday.
The controversial decision aside, it was a night of absolute joy and satisfaction for the 30-year-old as he finally got a chance to bat for his country after multiple snubs by the selectors despite consistent performances in domestic and IPL cricket.
When asked about what kept him going despite the multiple disappointments he endured over the years, and most recently following his snub for the Australian series last November, Suryakumar Yadav said-
“I kept working hard, I only knew that I have one option and I try to do things that are in my control. I kept on working on my skills and fitness and I knew that when the time is right, an opportunity will come and I will grab it with both hands,” said Suryakumar Yadav
“There were some butterflies, I was happy when I got to know that I will be batting at No 3, I knew what I had done before, I just followed the same process which I do while playing for my franchise. “I knew this situation really well, I wanted to do the same things. I did not do anything different, I just expressed myself,” he said.
