NOT Sahibzada Farhan! Multan Sultans appoint Australia all-rounder as new captain for PSL 2026
Table of Contents
Big Bash winning captain of the Perth Scorchers, Ashton Turner, has been appointed as the skipper of the Multan Sultans side ahead of the upcoming PSL season in 2026.
The upcoming season of the Pakistan Super League will include two new teams in the competition and the Sialkot Stallionz have been renamed as the Multan Sultans. They have also revealed their captain for the upcoming season.
The PSL clashes with the IPL window this time as well due to the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. It starts from the 26th of March and will continue throughout a major phase of the IPL.
Multan Sultans announce captain for PSL 2026
Australian T20 cricket veteran Ashton Turner has been picked as the new captain of the Multan Sultans side. He was the skipper of the Perth Scorchers side that won the 2026 Big Bash League.

Turner is a veteran in the BBL and has led his side Scorchers, to three titles. His first win as a captain came in 2021-22 and then the following season in 2022-23. Turner, for the first time, will be seen leading a side in the PSL.
Sahibzada Farhan ignored for captaincy despite dream run in World Cup
Pakistan batter Sahibzada Farhan made his debut for Pakistan in the shortest format of the game before the Asia Cup 2025. He played some sincilating innings particularly against archrivals India that walked them through to the finals.
He continued his promising run to the ICC T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. Farhan went on to score 383 runs in the competition in just 7 appearances. He broke Virat Kohli's record of most runs in a single edition of the T20 World Cup that too with a strike rate of nearly 170.
He also went on to be the first batter in the T20 World Cup to have scored two centuries in a single edition. However he could not help his team over to the finals or against archrivals India, against whom he was dismissed for a duck.
Despite this promising form he failed to land the captaincy role with the Multan Sultans side. This seems as a major disappointment for the rising superstar of Pakistan cricket. Pakistan have caused a major upset not picking their country man as the leader and instead switching to the Australian, Ashton Turner.
Ashton Turner's PSL Stats
Ashton Turner has not made many appearances in the Pakistan Super League. His prior exposure of the league can be summed up within three games that he played.

As per ESPNCricinfo, in those three games he has amassed 15 runs and managed to score at an average of just 5. On the other hand the explosive batter's strike rate is also below 140, which doesn't make him a very desirable pick for the new franchise.
Maybe his expertise as the skipper of the Australian franchise gave him the upper hand over Pakistan's very own superstar Sahibzada Farhan.
