Not Thinking Too Much About World Cup Selection, It Will Happen If It Has To Happen: Varun Chakravarthy

Indian bowler Varun Chakravarthy admitted that being in the World Cup Squad is not his priority and the leg-spinner focuses on helping his IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders to qualify for the playoffs.
Chakravarthy, who made his international debut for India against Sri Lanka last month, could return with just a couple of wickets from the three matches he played in. His colleague Rahul Chahar was more effective than him as he claimed four wickets from two games and an incredible spell of 3/15 in the final T20I impressed everyone.
The goal will be for KKR to qualify for playoffs in IPL 2021: Varun Chakravarthy
Apart from Chahar, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav will be Chakravarthy’s other contenders for the spinner’s slot in the World squad. Chakravarthy said his goal is to push KKR to playoffs and if his selection has to happen it will automatically take place.
“The goal will be for KKR to qualify (for the playoffs) and I’m just focusing on that. If I have to be picked in the World Cup, let that happen. If it has to happen, it will happen. The World Cup is there on the back of my mind, but I’m not thinking too much about it,” Chakravarthy said, as reported by India Today.
“There’s so much competition (for the spin spots for the T20 World Cup) and that’s why I need to keep getting better and better. It’s not in a negative way; the competition is positive and healthy,” he added.
You have to take full responsibility for what you bowl: Varun Chakravarthy
Varun Chakravarthy was selected in the Indian squad for Australia tour last year, but to his misfortune, he suffered a shoulder injury, which barred him from throwing balls and eventually he was ruled out of the tour.
Chakravarthy has picked seven wickets in as many games for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2021 so far and he believes that as a bowler he has to take complete responsibility for his deliveries and their execution.
“Obviously, in international cricket, the learning is to keep getting better with every game I play. Another learning is you have to take full responsibility for what you are going to bowl. In the international level, every ball matters, so you have to take full responsibility for it and the execution has to be perfect. I just stick to my process – it’s a very cliched thing – but sticking to the process has become my process. That’s the only thing I think about a lot,” Chakravarthy said.
Kolkata Knight Riders are currently at the seventh position on the points table and they will resume in the IPL 2021 in a match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on September 20.
