Suryakumar Yadav's India won their final group stage game against the Netherlands in the 2026 T20 World Cup at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, on Wednesday. This was a dead rubber match as the Men in Blue already qualified for the Super 8 stages after winning three out of their three matches. They qualified in the next round, undefeated, making it four out of four.

Suryakumar Yadav’s side has been in sensational form as they remain undefeated in 12 consecutive T20 World Cup matches since the 2024 T20 World Cup. This is a record made by the side. India has lost one match in the last 27 matches in the ICC tournaments they have played.

India created a record after their win against Pakistan, of winning 16 consecutive matches in the ICC white-ball tournaments - the longest streak by any team in history. Before the Men in Blue, Australia held the record for most consecutive wins (15) between the Champions Trophy 2006 and the ODI World Cup 2007. After the win against the Dutch, the win streak extended to 17.

This winning streak was started by former India captain Rohit Sharma. During a post-match chat with ICC broadcaster Sanjana Ganesan, Suryakumar Yadav was asked about Rohit Sharma, who is the International Cricket Council (ICC) ambassador for this edition of the T20 World Cup.

Suryakumar Yadav happy with Rohit Sharma being the ICC ambassador

Sanjana said in a video shared by ICC, “The ICC ambassador this time around is Rohit Sharma, someone you've played extensively with. (0:05) What have the chats been in the dugouts when he's come to meet you every time you've seen on the field? Any tips he's been handing out to you?”

In reply, Suryakumar Yadav said, “I've always been asking him what should I do if I win the toss. But then it's a little different to see him on the other side. But it's so good to see him always, I mean as an ICC ambassador. He just followed what he did in 2024 World Cup and then also in 2025 Champions Trophy.”

“I've played a lot of my cricket under him, franchise cricket as well. And when I've also played for India, I've learned a lot from him. Just trying to do similar things, what he's done. If he's done something and he's achieved, that means he's done something good. So there's nothing wrong in following his footsteps.”

Abhishek Sharma's form a concern for Suryakumar Yadav's side?

Coming to the match, India won the toss and elected to bat first. Once again, Abhishek Sharma was out on a duck, as in other matches, someone from the batting lineup yet again stepped up, this time Shivam Dube, who played an innings of 66 runs and helped India post a total of 194 runs.

While chasing, the Dutch had a steady start, but kept on losing wickets in the middle overs. They had no answer to the spin of Varun Chakravarthy, who picked up three wickets and has also been the second-highest wicket-taker in the competition so far with 9 wickets. India will next be up against South Africa at the same venue on Sunday.
