New Zealand takes on Pakistan in the second match of the tri-series in Christchurch on Saturday, October 8. Pakistan beat Bangladesh in the first match of the series by 21 runs. All three teams play each other twice in the league stage with the top two teams playing the final on October 14.

New Zealand are heading into this series after an ODI series loss to Australia. However, in T20Is, this year, they have just lost one in 10 games. They have beaten Scotland, Ireland and the Netherlands in the format this year leading up to the T20 World Cup. They have this series to get their team combination right ahead of their opener against Australia in the showpiece event.

Pakistan, on the other hand, is riding on the brilliance and good form of Mohammad Rizwan so far this year. He has scored 620 runs in 13 matches in 2022 including seven fifty-plus scores. In 2021, he scored 1326 runs with 12 fifties and two hundreds in the calendar year. In the first match against Bangladesh, he top-scored for his side yet again scoring an unbeaten 78 off 50 deliveries.

“We just kept things simple (himself and Babar), it was a good batting track to be honest, the ball came on nicely and we did really well with both bat and ball. I always use spikes, but it was a bit slippery today. We play well with each other (himself and Babar), and I always believe in hard work to get results. They were big boundaries on one side, but we played each ball on merit. One boundary was long, so we did have a lot of running as well” said Rizwan on his knock and his partnership with Babar Azam.
