The 33-year-old South Africa National Cricket Team left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj dismantled the stumps of the New Zealand National Cricket Team bowling all-rounder Mitchell Santner in the 32nd match of ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on Wednesday, November 1 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune.
Maharaj has picked wickets at crucial intervals for South Africa in the ongoing edition of the World Cup and has been preferred over Tabraiz Shamsi in the playing XI despite the latter delivering better performances in the limited opportunities given to him.
Keshav Maharaj repaid the faith shown by the team management in him by making a huge impact with the ball in the match against the Black Caps. The left-arm spinner opened his account by dismissing Daryl Mitchell and followed it up with a dismissal of Santner with a beauty.
On the fourth ball of the 23rd over, Maharaj bowled an 83kph delivery outside off-stump that turned back and rattled the stumps of Santner who misjudged the delivery completely. The Kiwi all-rounder was back in the hut after scoring 7 runs off 18 balls with one boundary.

Earlier, New Zealand won the toss and chose to bowl first in the match. They made one change to their playing XI as injured Lockie Ferguson was replaced by Tim Southee. Also, the Proteas brought back Kagiso Rabada for Tabraiz Shamsi.
The decision to bowl first looked good initially for the Black Caps as they kept the scoring rate in check and didn???t let the Proteas batters fire. However, after getting set the South African batters ??? Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen ??? fired with the bat to push the opposition team on the backfoot. Also, they slammed sensational tons.
Riding on the centuries from Quinton de Kock and Van der Dussen, the Proteas posted a massive total of 357/4 on the board. Overall, South Africa have gone past 300 in eight successive games while batting first with all of the scores coming in 2023.
