Ahead of the 2021 T20 World Cup this year, Oman Cricket Association has invited Mumbai’s domestic team to play three T20I’s and three ODI’s in Muscat. The invite was sent to Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) by Oman’s Chief Development Officer, Duleep Mendis.
The decision to do so comes on the back of the fact that Oman is scheduled to play the qualifiers for the World Cup starting from October 17. This would enable the team to gain proper game time and would also give some exposure to Mumbai for the domestic seasons including Ranji Trophy.
“On behalf of Oman Cricket, we would like to invite the Mumbai Cricket team to play matches against Oman’s national cricket team. As we understand that both teams are currently preparing for the upcoming season, it will be an excellent opportunity for the players to get some quality practice just before the commencement of the season,” Mendis stated in a letter according to ANI.
Mumbai Cricket Association is likely to accept Oman Cricket’s invitation
The schedule sent out by Oman Cricket will require the Mumbai team to depart for Muscat on August 19. They will then have to undergo mandatory quarantine, as is the norm everywhere, starting on August 20. A day later, i.e. August 21, Mumbai will be allowed to hold training sessions.
The logistics seem reasonable and therefore MCA is very likely to go ahead with the tour. A source within the association told ANI that the details are the only thing left to be worked out.
“We have been invited for the tour between August 19 to September 3. The details of the tour to Oman are still being worked out,” the source revealed.
The T20 games will mark the start of the tour. The three games planned will be played on August 22, 24, and 26. This will be the primary focus with the T20 World Cup qualifiers in mind. Following which the teams will move on to the ODI’s which will be played on August 29, 31, and then September 2.
