Oman squad for Asia Cup 2025 announced, Jatinder Singh named captain

On Monday, August 25, Oman Cricket announced the 17-man squad of the Oman National Cricket Team for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025.

Jatinder Singh has been named as the skipper of the Oman National Cricket Team for the continental tournament, and Duleep Mendis will be serving as the head coach.

Team Oman set for first-ever appearance in Asia Cup

The Oman National Cricket Team will be making their first-ever appearance in the Asia Cup in the upcoming edition of the tournament. They have been placed in Group A, alongside India, Pakistan, and the United Arab Emirates.

Oman clinched a spot for the competition after finishing as runners-up in the 2024 ACC Premier Cup at home.

They would be hoping to impress the cricket world in their debut appearance in the event, and ensure that the team achieves that goal, the selectors have picked a strong squad.

Veteran opener Jatinder Singh will be leading the team that consists of Hammad Mirza, Mohammed Nadeem, and Vinayak Shukla in the batting lineup.

Also, Hassnain Ali Shah, Mohammad Imran, Faisal Shah, Sufyan Mehmood, and Shakeel Ahmed form a good spin-bowling unit. Four debutants feature in the squad: Sufyan Yousuf, Zikriya Islam, Faisal Shah, and Nadeem Khan.

In an official statement released by Oman Cricket, the head coach Duleep Mendis said that they have had a perfect build-up to the Asia Cup 2025 and are hopeful of making a major impact in the competition. He elaborated:

“It is real that we are participating in the Asia Cup – a major tournament and a fantastic opportunity for our players to showcase their skills on a global stage. Playing against teams like India and Pakistan is a moment to embrace for any cricketer. Anything can happen in a fast-paced T20 game, where one over of brilliance can change everything.

"Our build-up has been strong, with the ongoing National T20 tournament providing competitive exposure, and our training sessions have been intense and focused. It’s not just about skills – in high-pressure games against elite teams, mental strength is equally crucial.

"We are hopeful of making an impact in this Asia Cup and showcasing Oman as a growing cricketing nation.
