The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Viswanathan has confirmed that the franchise is interested in acquiring a team in the Women’s Indian Premier League (IPL).

A full-fledged Women’s Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament is expected to be staged by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2023 and reportedly the board is looking for a March-April window.

The BCCI secretary Jay Shah had said that they will be looking forward to starting the tournament with 5-6 teams. He also said that the BCCI has received a good response from the stakeholders and several franchises have shown interest in the Women’s IPL.

“This is a project which is very close to my heart. We will start with either five or six teams in the first edition. I am thrilled at the kind of response we have got from stakeholders. Multiple existing IPL teams have enquired and expressed serious interest in owning WIPL franchises,” he said while speaking to PTI a few weeks back.

Meanwhile, speaking to The Hindu, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said:

“Once the BCCI decides to have a women’s IPL, we will be interested. We will take a call when it is offered. Look at the progress in Indian women’s cricket after receiving recognition.”

On March 24, just a few days before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 began, legendary captain MS Dhoni officially decided to hand over the CSK captaincy to Jadeja.

However, Chennai Super Kings struggled under Jadeja’s captaincy as they won only 2 games and faced 6 defeats and Jadeja’s form with the bat and ball also took a massive hit. So Jadeja decided to hand back the captaincy to Dhoni to concentrate more on his game.

Meanwhile, Jadeja suffered an injury and got ruled out of the last few games of the tournament and some reports came out suggesting that everything wasn’t right between CSK and Ravindra Jadeja.

“Everything is fine,” Kasi Viswanathan said while talking about Jadeja vs CSK rift rumours.
