Oval Century Should Be A Defining Moment In Rohit Sharma's Cricket Career - Sunil Gavaskar
Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar lauded Rohit Sharma’s knock at The Oval last summer against England, where he tamed the new-ball attack of the home side before making the start count.
Rohit’s Test career hasn’t had the same amount of success as his white-ball exploits but Gavaskar felt the century in the 2021 tour of England could well be the defining moment of his entire career.
“It should be a defining moment in his cricket career because at the end of the day, however many runs you score at home, the number of centuries and the runs that you get overseas are the ones that decide your place in the pantheon of greats,” Gavaskar said on the docu-series ‘Architects of White’ streaming on SONY LIV.
It was his first overseas century and the one that he will remember for the longest as it resulted in a fine win for the Indian team.
“Brilliant for a skipper to have someone like him to depend on” – Sunil Gavaskar on Harshal
Gavaskar spoke about the bowling attack for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia, claiming that Harshal Patel will be the trump card for Rohit, especially in the death overs.
“He will be one of the trumps cards because you have Bhuvneshwar, Shami and Bumrah as well. Brilliant for a skipper to have someone like him to depend on, He can come in and bowl maybe even in the powerplay where people are now going with change of pace. So yes he certainly should be part of the group,” he mentioned.
Harshal has quickly risen in stature since the record-breaking IPL 2021 season and he is now a permanent member of the T20I team. He will be hoping to continue performing and book a ticket to Australia for the World Cup.
