'Pain-Free' Mohammed Shami to make comeback on his terms, not to play Bengal's next game

India National Cricket Team pacer Mohammed Shami won't be featuring in the Bengal's next game against the Karnataka team. As per the reports in IANS, it is learned that the Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) doesn't want to rush the pacer into action.

The reports claimed that Mohammed Shami will be playing in the game against Madhya Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25. There were reports earlier that the fast bowler will be playing two games in the domestic circuit before heading to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, which so far he isn't part of.

Shami wasn't named in the Bengal squad against Karnataka, starting from November 6 in Bengaluru. Although they have named the unchanged, there are high chances that the pacer will be playing against Madhya Pradesh, scheduled to begin on November 13 at Holkar Stadium in Indore.

Mohammed Shami will not be playing the Bengal game against Karnataka - Reports

The development was confirmed by the source close to the fast bowler. He also said that Shami wants to do his competitive cricket return at his pace and comfort. Speaking to IANS, he explained:

"Shami will not be playing the Bengal game against Karnataka, and most probably, he will play the match against Madhya Pradesh. The information received from the BCCI Centre of Excellence was that he will not be rushed into action. There have also been thoughts that Shami wants to do his competitive cricket return at his pace and comfort."

Shami has resumed the bowling to full tilt in the nets. The fast bowler was recently seen bowling to assistant coach Abhishek Nayar after India lost the Test series opener to the New Zealand National Cricket Team by eight wickets on October 20.

Shami then during a promotional event at Gurugram made a statement about his comeback. He mentioned that he is 100% pain-free and also expressed his desire to play a few Ranji Trophy 2024-25 games before making the comeback into the India National Cricket Team.

Although Mohammed Shami hasn't been named in the Indian squad for the Test series against Africa, various reports have claimed that the fast bowler might play the last few games in the series. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test will begin on 22nd November in Perth it is learned that the pacer will be playing from the third game in Brisbane, starting from December 14.

Mohammed Shami was all set to make a return through the ongoing Test series against the New Zealand National Cricket Team. But the fast bowler faced a setback. He experienced swelling in his right knee which delayed his comeback and ruled him out of the first few games of Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

Shami last played for India in the final of the ICC World Cup 2023. He picked 24 wickets at an average of 10.70 to be the leading wicket-taker in the competition.
