Australian opener David Warner made yet another retirement announcement ahead of his last Test match against Pakistan in Sydney. Warner will retire from ODI cricket after playing his farewell Test match and will be only seen playing in the shorter international format. However, it has been a while since Warner has featured in the T20 format.

David Warner has been a destructive opener throughout his career and is known for his aggressive shots. Ahead of his last Test match against Pakistan, Warner opened up on the toughest bowler he has ever faced in Test cricket. It would have been very easy for a true cricket fan to guess the name as Stuart Broad.

However, David Warner shocked his fans by not taking the name of Stuart Broad and believes that former ace South African pacer Dale Steyn is the toughest pacer he has faced in Test cricket. Revealing the fact, David Warner said during the press conference remembered the 2016-17 home series against South Africa.

David Warner revealed that during the WACA Test of the series in Perth, he and Shaun Marsh had to walk out to bat for 45 minutes. Warner also made a revelation about the conversation he had with his partner Marsh. Marsh was saying that he didn’t have any idea of how to pull Dale Steyn and he was also clueless about how to face him.

David Warner said, “Without doubt it’s Dale Steyn. I go back to the WACA (the first Test of the 2016-17 home series against South Africa) when me and Shaun Marsh had to go out for an ugly 45-minute session. Shaun came down to me and said, ‘I can’t pull him so I don’t know how we’re going to go about facing him’. He put me on my backside and I think he broke his shoulder as well that game.”

“He’s a fierce competitor who swung the ball back into the left-hander, which is similar to Mitchell Starc swinging the ball back into the right-hander at pace. He was always a fiery customer who never gave you a smile and never gave you an inch or a sniff on the field.”

Dale Steyn has played a total of 265 international matches for South Africa and has picked up 699 wickets at an average of 23.27. His best figures were 7/51 and he ended his international career with 29 five-wicket hauls.

David Warner showcased brilliant batting skills during the first Test of the AUS vs PAK series and played an innings of 164 runs. Warner’s innings helped Australia register a dominant 360-run win over Pakistan.

Australia currently lead the three-match Test series by 2-0 and will be playing the third match at the Sydney Cricket Ground from January 3.

The Australian team have been dominant in Test cricket throughout the year 2023 and are also the World Test Champions. Pakistan on the other hand have not won a Test match in Australia for the last 24 years and have lost 16 matches in a row. Pakistan would aim to break the streak in Sydney.
