Former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq has suggested two players who can be compared to some of the world’s leading left-arm spinners such as Kuldeep Yadav and Tabraiz Shamsi.

One of the reasons behind Pakistan’s poor performance in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 is the struggle of their spinners to pick up wickets. The likes of Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz have struggled to help their team despite favourable conditions for spin bowling. Both of them have picked up 2 wickets in 5 games so far.

During the crucial game against South Africa, Pakistan’s batters struggled against Shamsi. The left-arm spinner dismissed Babar Azam, Iftikhar Ahmed, Saud Shakeel, and Shaheen Afridi to derail Pakistan’s innings. Pakistan’s batters struggled against left-arm spin of Noor Ahmed too as the Afghan teenager picked up three wickets.

Misbah-ul-Haq names two spinners:

There have been calls from several quarters to overhaul Pakistan’s spin department. And Misbah-ul-Haq has now named two bowlers who can end Pakistan’s search for quality spinners. He named Faisal Akram who is still playing age-level cricket and Sufiyan Muqeem as the two spinners.

“Unfortunately, in Pakistan, I will talk about the last 10-12 years that we didn’t have these kind of bowlers. Recently, there are two bowlers. One, Faisal Akram, who is coming from under-16, still isn’t getting consistent chances, and he doesn’t bowl that much anywhere.

We invited him to practice matches against Pakistan, and at that time, everyone had trouble picking him, and there were issues in the nets as well. The other is Sufiyan Muqeem, who is currently playing for Pakistan Shaheens,” Misbah-ul-Haq was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

Talking about Pakistan’s World Cup campaign so far, they are currently languishing at the sixth spot in the points table with 2 wins and 4 defeats. The Men in Green began their campaign with wins over the Netherlands and Sri Lanka before losing 4 games in a row against India, Australia, Afghanistan and South Africa.

They now need to win their remaining games and hope that other results go their way to make it to the semifinal. Pakistan will be in action next on Tuesday (October 31) when they take on Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
