PAK vs CAN: Virat Kohli mentioned as Misbah-ul-Haq insults Babar Azam for not performing in big games

Former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq lashed out at Pakistan skipper Babar Azam after the loss against India in the T20 World Cup 2024. He said that the batter needs to perform at the big stages and he also needs to see if he is better than Virat Kohli.

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has come under the firing line after the team suffered a loss against India in the T20 World Cup 2024. This marked another instance when the captain of the team failed to make a big impact with the bat as well as the leader in the pressure games.

Babar Azam of late has struggled to get going in the big games and his poor form has been one of the main reasons why Pakistan has struggled to get going. In the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, the opening batter hasn't found his mojo and hasn't looked at his best with the bat, failing in both games.

In the game against the United States of America, Babar Azam couldn't get going at all. He tried to hold the fort but couldn't as he ended up playing the slow knock. He scored 44 runs off 43 and thanks to that, Pakistan failed to put up a big total on the board and then lost the game.

His torrid run continued with the bat even in the game against India. Babar Azam couldn't set the stage on fire as he failed to free his arms and score. He was removed by Jasprit Bumrah and managed just 13 runs off 10 balls at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York

Misbah-Ul-Haq pointed out that Babar Azam is playing his 4th World Cup and he hasn't stepped up for the team in big situations. He pointed out that the team is out of the tournament and none of his performances will be counted without pressure. Speaking to Ten Sports, he explained:

"Babar Azam is playing his 4th World Cup (as captain). When the pressure situation comes, he needs to prove himself - this is where you see, am I better, or is Virat Kohli better? Babar had to step up, and now we're almost out (of the T20 World Cup). No one counts your performances without pressure."

Misbah-ul-Haq further stated that Babar Azam is a big player and it is his responsibility to inspire the entire team but the captain is failing to do that. He pointed out that the right-hander hasn't performed in the last three World Cups, which is why Pakistan is struggling. He added:

"He's such a big player with lots of performances, so this is the stage to take your team forward and inspire them, but he's unable to do that. Since 2019, we've had 3 T20 World Cups and an ODI World Cup, but he couldn't perform as he should have, which is one of the reasons behind Pakistan's struggles."

Pakistan will be next seen in action when they will take on Canada in their next encounter on 11th June. Skipper Babar Azam would be keen to lead from the front and take his team to win. They have very little chance to qualify but they would be keen to give their best.
