Ben Stokes, the captain of the England Test team, hasn’t ruled out playing one-day cricket again in light of the upcoming 50-over World Cup in India. The seam-bowling all-rounder thought that representing his nation in a World Cup would be a wonderful experience, but his only priority right now is the Test series against Pakistan.

The 31-year-old cited an unsustainable schedule in July of this year when he announced his retirement from ODI cricket. Stokes has only appeared in 105 ODI matches since making his debut in 2011.

The ECB executive director Robert Key had floated the idea, but England’s Test captain said he had rejected it in a statement prior to the first Test against Pakistan. But shortly after, Durham’s all-rounder advised reconsidering.

“Rob Key pulled me to the side in the UAE and as soon as he said ’50-over World Cup’ I just walked away. Who knows? At the moment, being out here, my focus is solely on this series against Pakistan”  Ben Stokes quoted by The Guardian.

“But it’s one of those things. But who knows how I might feel towards a World Cup at the time. Going to a World Cup is an amazing thing to do, to represent your country. But at the moment I’m not even thinking about that” Ben Stokes Added.

Ben Stokes was named Player of the Match in the 2019 World Cup final:

When England won their first 50-over World Cup at home in 2019, Ben Stokes was also in the thick of things. The outstanding all-rounder defeated New Zealand in a thrilling game by hitting an undefeated 84 in the tournament final at Lord’s.

White-ball skipper Jos Buttler will be ecstatic if Stokes decides to reverse his ODI retirement for the World Cup in India next year since he has demonstrated his prowess in big games with both bat and ball.

Stokes has scored 2924 runs at an average of 38.98, with three centuries and 21 fifty-plus runs. Additionally, he has 71 wickets to his credit, with the best total being 5/61.
