All-rounder Aamir Jamal is set to make his T20I debut for Pakistan when they clash with England in the fifth match of the seven-T20I series with the last three matches to be played in the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The series is levelled 2-2 with the four matches already being played in Karachi.
The hosts have played indifferent cricket as they had dominated one match and were crushed in another. In the last T20I in Karachi, Pakistan barely escaped with a 3-run win even as England lost early wickets and the lower order batters like Liam Dawson almost took the game away.
The 26-year-old, who hails from Mianwali has played 13 first-class, nine List A, and 12 T20 matches so far. He will become the 98th player to represent Pakistan in T20Is. He has made 341 FC runs, 74 List A runs and 227 T20I runs at a strike rate of 178.77. He has a cumulative 60 wickets as well.
I Am So Happy That I Am Speechless: Aamir Jamal On His Pakistan T20I Debut
Talking about his journey in cricket, Jamal revealed in a video shared by PCB on Twitter, that he joined the Pakistani team as a net bowler when Bangladesh and Sri Lanka visited the country in 2019.
“Feeling is different and I am speechless with happiness. Saqlain Mushtaq told me about the good news that I will be playing the match today and I had tears in my eyes. He then asked me about my plans for the match. I told him that I will stay on what I have the best command on and will act according to the situations in the match. I struggled a lot to reach here. I played for Pakistan U19 and then had a gap of 4 years. But I kept working hard and never gave up. I thank god that this season went well and now I am making my debut for Pakistan,” Jamal said.
He also said that he idolizes Wasim Akram and that he was motivated when he saw Pakistani cricketers working hard when he was part of the net bowling squad in 2019 for the national team.
