Senior India National Cricket Team right-arm pacer Mohammed Shami has tested negative for Covid-19 ahead of the three-match T20I series between India National Cricket Team and South Africa National Cricket Team.

Team India is set to lock horns with South Africa in a 6-match white-ball series ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. The T20I matches will be played on September 28, October 2 and October 4 in Thiruvananthapuram, Guwahati and Indore. The ODI games are scheduled to be played in Ranchi, Lucknow and Delhi on October 6, October 9 and October 11.

Ahead of the commencement of the first T20I between Rohit Sharma-led India and Temba Bavuma-led South Africa at the Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday, September 28, veteran speedster Mohammed Shami took to Instagram to reveal that he has tested negative for Covid-19. The pacer also shared a photo of his Covid-19 negative report.

Mohammed Shami To Miss South Africa T20Is Despite Testing Negative For Covid-19 – Reports

Mohammed Shami, who last played a T20I game for India in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021, had tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of the three-match T20I series between Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team and Aaron Finch-led Australia National Cricket Team, where the Men In Blue won by 2-1. Also, senior pacer Umesh Yadav replaced Shami in the squad for Australia T20Is.

Meanwhile, Shami, who has just recovered from Covid-19, will need to undergo BCCI’s mandated fitness tests before he can be eligible for selection and as a result, he will miss the T20I series against South Africa, as per a report in ESPNcricinfo.

Umesh Yadav has been added to the T20I squad for the T20I series against South Africa as a replacement for Shami.
