PAK vs ENG: Shoaib Malik exposed as Basit Ali alleges match-fixing, and labels Babar Azam 'coward'

Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has made shocking claims by accusing Shoaib Malik of match-fixing. Shoaib Malik is also one of the five mentors in the Champions Cup domestic tournament in Pakistan. Malik has been appointed as the mentor of Stallions.

Basit Ali did not stop here and even called Babar Azam a "coward." Babar is in Shoaib Malik's team Stallions but is not the captain of the team despite being Pakistan's white-ball captain at the moment. Instead, Mohammad Haris has been selected as the captain of Stallions in the Champions One-day Cup.

Basit Ali calls Shoaib Malik a match-fixer

While speaking in a video uploaded on his YouTube channel, Basit Ali tore apart Shoaib Malik and made serious accusations against him regarding match-fixing. He also lashed out at PCB for appointing Malik as the mentor of a team in the Champions Cup.

“Those people who cannot think about the country, should not be appointed. Those who have admitted that they deliberately lost a match, should not be the mentor. If you want evidence, I will give it. Ramiz Raja Saheb interviewed Shoaib Malik. What did he say?” Basit Ali argued.

Basit Ali calls Babar Azam a "coward"

Basit Ali was also against the move to appoint Mohammad Haris as the captain of Stallions despite the presence of Babar Azam in the squad. He even called Babar a "coward" for not refusing to play under Haris' captaincy. He argued that Babar should have refused to play like somebody like Umar Akmal or Ahmed Shehzad.

“The only regret I have for Babar Azam is that everyone became captain but Shoaib Malik did not make him the captain and went for Haris instead. From Babar Azam’s pocket, you can pick out 10s of Haris’,” Basit said.

“That is such a big insult to him. Babar is also a coward. He should have done it like Umar Akmal or Ahmed Shehzad refused to play,” he added.

Why was Mohammad Haris appointed Stallions captain?

When asked about the reason for appointing Mohammad Haris as the captain despite Babar Azam's presence, Shoaib Malik revealed that he saw the abilities and skills in Mohammad Haris as the future captain of Pakistan.

”We’ve had discussions. Only those players would be selected as the captain who can be groomed into the role per my point of view and those who have some abilities as well. In my perspective, the skills a captain needs are different to personal performances. I plan on picking my captain who has the skills and can give success to Pakistan in the long run,” Malik said.

Not only Babar Azam, but Pakistan's Test captain Shan Masood is also in the Stallions team. But Stallions mentor saw Mohammad Haris as a potential future captain and backed him for the role.

The Champions One-Day Cup 2024 started on September 12 with Markhors taking on Panthers in the first match of the tournament. The final of the tournament will be played on September 29. All the matches of the tournament will be held in Faisalabad.
