Netherlands captain Scott Edwards talked about the disappointing loss that his side faced in the second game of the ICC World Cup 2023 against Pakistan. He admitted that they weren’t good with the bat as they lost wickets in the middle.
The Netherlands had a disappointing start to their ICC World Cup 2023 campaign. They suffered a massive 81-run loss as they were below par with the bat. The Scott Edwards’ side opted to field first and they were good enough with the ball as they put Pakistan under immense pressure.
The Netherlands picked three wickets early and left Pakistan tottering at 38/3. After that 120-run partnership between Mohammad Rizwan (68) and Saud Shakeel, they were again back and picked wickets regularly, bundling out the Men in Green for just 286 runs.
With the bat, they weren’t enough as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Vikramjit Singh (52) and Bas de Leede (67) batted superbly and smashed staggering half-centuries that kept their team in the hunt. But they failed to carry on.
Logan Van Beek tried his best and was unbeaten at 28 runs but he remained stranded at one end.
Scott Edwards said that they felt they were in the game when they were at 120 during the chase. He credited Pakistan for their efforts and also spoke about his captaincy. Speaking after the game, he explained:
“Firstly, a little bit disappointing. Think we bowled a fielded really well. Credit to Pakistan, they batted well in the end. Felt the total was par, we felt we were in the game when we were on 120. Captaincy is a bit about instinct, a lot of options out there.”
PAK vs NED: Bas de Leede is fantastic in all three departments of the game – Scott Edwards
Bas de Leede was the star for the Netherlands even though they lost the match. The all-rounder picked four wickets with the ball and then backed it with the staggering half-century.
Scott Edwards lauded Bas de Leede for his magnificent performance and admitted that the match got away from their hand as were in the game. He added:
“Bas de Leede is fantastic in all three departments of the game. Just needed someone to go with him. Haven’t spoken to van Beek, we’ll assess that and see where it goes. Probably one that got away, we were in a pretty good position. They just took a few wickets in the middle there.”
Netherlands will be next seen in action when they will take on New Zealand on Monday (9th October) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
