The 23-year-old Netherlands National Cricket Team all-rounder Bas de Leede starred with the bat and ball in the defeat against Pakistan National Cricket Team in the second match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 on Friday, October 6 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

He bagged a sensational 4-wicket haul in the match and gave away just 62 runs in his 9 overs to bundle out the Men In Green for 286. While chasing the target, he smashed 67 runs off 68 balls, with 6 fours and 2 sixes, but it wasn’t enough for the victory.

One of his two sixes, came in the 29th over when he smashed express pacer Haris Rauf for a six. On the fourth ball of the over, Haris Rauf bowled a bouncer to De Leede and the batter played a bold pull shot. The ball cleared deep backward square leg for a brilliant maximum. After hitting the incredible hook shot, he winked at the pacer.

Bas de Leede is fantastic in all three departments of the game – Scott Edwards

Speaking after the match, Netherlands captain Scott Edwards expressed his disappointment over the 81-run loss to Pakistan. He said:

“Firstly, a little bit disappointing. Think we bowled a fielded really well. Credit to Pakistan, they batted well in the end. Felt the total was par, we felt we were in the game when we were on 120. Captaincy is a bit about instinct, lot of options out there.”

Scott Edwards further showered high praise on the star all-rounder Bas de Leede, saying that he is a fantastic player in all three departments of the game. He said:

“Bas de Leede is fantastic in all three departments of the game. Just needed someone to go with him. Haven’t spoken to van Beek, we’ll assess that and see where it goes. Probably one that got away, we were in a pretty good position. They just took a few wickets in the middle there.”
