Whenever Pakistan play, one can always expect some comical moments. The Men in Green are famous for adding a touch of unpredictability and humor to the game. And something similar happened in the ongoing game between Pakistan and South Africa at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

It is a must-win game for Pakistan who have lost three of their first five games. They began their campaign with wins over the Netherlands and Sri Lanka before suffering defeats against India, Australia, and Afghanistan. Any more slip-up could very well end their slim chances of progressing to the semifinal of an ODI World Cup for the first time since 2011.

Talking about the comical incident, it took place in the fifth over of South Africa’s innings. On the third ball of the over bowled by left-arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz, Temba Bavuma played an on-drive towards mid-on with soft hands and set off for a quick single.

As fielder Agha Salman charged to collect the ball, wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan was heard telling him, ‘Maar de, maar de (hit, hit)’. And while Agha Salman did listen to Rizwan’s instruction, he ended up hitting Mohammad Nawaz instead of the stumps, leaving the commentators in splits.

He wanted to throw the ball towards the striker’s end but Nawaz intercepted it by mistake. The ball hit him on his hand and he looked in pain straight away. Fortunately for Pakistan, the spinner did not sustain any serious injury.

Talking about the game, South Africa were on 67 for 2 after 10 overs at the time of writing this report. The Proteas are chasing 271 runs for their fourth win in the ongoing competition. Earlier in the game, Pakistan were all out for 270 in the 47th over. Captain Babar Azam and Saud Shakeel scored fifties while Shadab Khan also played a crucial knock of 43 runs.
