PAK vs SL: Sri Lanka Provide Massive Update On Maheesh Theekshana's Injury During Asia Cup 2023

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to provide a massive update on the 23-year-old star spinner Maheesh Theekshana, who sustained an injury during the Asia Cup 2023.

Morawakage Maheesh Theekshana is Sri Lanka’s first-choice spinner alongside Wanindu Hasaranga in the white-ball cricket and he is the go-to man of skipper Dasun Shanaka whenever the skipper needs a breakthrough. He is Sri Lanka’s is their highest wicket-taker in ODIs in 2023 with 31 scalps in 15 matches at an average of 17.45.

Theekshana has picked wickets in all the matches of the Asia Cup 2023 so far but he has been quite expensive in two matches. He has registered figures of 1/41, 3/69, 2/19, 1/62, and 1/42 in five matches.

Meanwhile, Maheesh Theekshana picked up an injury in the ongoing clash against Babar Azam-led Pakistan National Cricket Team in the 5th match of the Asia Cup 2023 Super Four stage on Thursday, September 14 at the R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.

The 23-year-old spinner suffered an injury in the first innings of the match while fielding. He looked in trouble and was seen hobbling on the field. However, he showed bravery and completed his 9-over spell in the 42-over-per-side contest before being helped off the field by some Sri Lanka dugout members.

After a few hours, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) took to X to reveal that Theekshana has strained his right hamstring and will undergo a scan tomorrow. Notably, Sri Lanka are already without four of their key bowlers and they would be hoping Theekshana doesn’t join the injury list with the World Cup around the corner.

“Maheesh Theekshana has strained his right hamstring. The player will undergo a scan tomorrow to fully assess his condition. Theekshana sustained the injury while he was fielding during the ongoing game between Sri Lanka and Pakistan,” Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said in an official media release.
