The 23-year-old Sri Lanka National Cricket Team spinner Maheesh Theekshana castled the 29-year-old Pakistan National Cricket Team all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz in the fifth match of the Asia Cup 2023 Super Four stage on Thursday, September 14 at the R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.
Mohammad Nawaz was promoted up in the batting order to No.6 after Pakistan were reduced to 108/4 in the 24th over. The team management expected the all-rounder to showcase his batting prowess and build a good partnership with Mohammad Rizwan but it didn’t happen as they were able to stitch together just 22 runs in 22 balls.
Nawaz was cleaned up by star spinner Theekshana in the 28th over. Only the fourth ball of the over, Theekshana an off-break delivery to Nawaz, and the all-rounder moved towards the leg-side and exposed his stumps. The ball went past his outside edge and knocked over the stumps.
The Pakistan all-rounder was back in the dugout after contributing just 12 runs off 12 balls, with two fours.
