Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly expressed his opinion on the India-Pakistan ODI World Cup clashes, stating that they haven’t been as exciting as the matches against Australia. Sourav Ganguly highlighted that the matches between India and Australia have displayed more quality cricket.

The Rohit Sharma-led team will take on Australia in their league stage match in the ODI World Cup 2023 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on October 8. The Men in Blue will face arch-rivals Pakistan in their third match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 15.

India vs Australia Tends To Be A Better Game – Sourav Ganguly

In a conversation with Star Sports, Sourav Ganguly highlighted India’s winning streak against Pakistan in World Cup matches in the 50-over format.

“There is a lot of hype in this match but the quality has not been that good for a long time because India kept on winning one-sided. Pakistan probably defeated India for the first time in the T20 World Cup in Dubai,” Ganguly told Star Sports.

“India did not play well in that tournament but according to me, India vs Australia tends to be a better game in the World Cup because the quality is better,” he added.

India will lock horns with Pakistan for the first time at home after the 2016 T20 World Cup in front of over 100,000 spectators. The hosts defeated Pakistan seven times in ODI World Cups.

The Conditions Will Also Be Important – Sourav Ganguly

The former BCCI president pointed out that Pakistan is a dangerous team on flat tracks, whereas India has the edge in seamer-friendly conditions.

“This Pakistan team is also good and the match will be good. Pakistan becomes a good team on flat wickets because their batters use those conditions well. They have fast bowlers who use the conditions,” he further stated.

“Wherever there is seam or swing, because their quality of batting has been good in the past, I can’t say what will happen going forward, India always used to march ahead. It will always be a big game. The conditions will also be important,” he concluded.

The two teams have faced each other twice in previous World Cups held in India, in 1996 and 2011. India emerged as the winners in the quarterfinals of the 1996 World Cup and the semi-finals of the 2011 World Cup.
