Pakistan cancel Bangladesh tour after T20 World Cup disaster, big names kicked out
PC: X

Uncertainty has prevailed over the Pakistan tour of Bangladesh for a three-match ODI series, right after Pakistan's exit from the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. However, this is due to regional tensions in the Middle East amid calls for significant changes within the Pakistan team.

Pakistan were eliminated from the ICC T20 World Cup after they could not manage to surpass the net run rate of New Zealand. They had to win by a margin of 65 or more runs against Pakistan, but despite having scored several runs, they could not manage to win the match by more than 5 runs.

Uncertainty looms over Bangladesh's return to International cricket

Pakistan had a long-scheduled series against Bangladesh after the conclusion of the ICC T20 World Cup. The series has been scheduled to be played on the 11th, 13th, and 15th of March, respectively, at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.

This upcoming tour is now facing an uncertain future due to the ongoing regional tensions. The tour, according to reports from GEO News, is likely to continue only if the prevailing situation does not escalate, and hence, any kind of travel or security concern is ruled out.

This would also mark the return of Bangladesh to international cricket after they were thrown out of the ICC T20 World Cup by the Jay Shah-led ICC. Bangladesh then went on to regret their decision as their government also started putting the blame on the players and the board for the boycott.

Significant changes are to be made to Pakistan's lineup as they shift focus to the ICC World Cup 2027

As per reports, Pakistan are likely to undergo a complete revamp of its squad, and many newcomers might be seen for the upcoming tours as they shift their focus to the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup in 2027 to be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

The discussions regarding the changes in the teams for their upcoming assignment is expected to begin this week, especially after the horrific form of some of their players in the ICC T20 World Cup.

The selection committee will not only be aiming to make massive changes to the squad, but also youngsters shall be handed a breakthrough at the expense of some senior players who have been underperforming, like Saim Ayub, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam.

No immediate alterations to Pakistan's T20I squad

After the T20 World Cup exit, major changes will also take place in the squad for the shortest format of the game, which might begin with a swap in captaincy. However, since Pakistan does not have any T20I series in the near future, those decisions might be kept for later.

However, the sources have revealed that around five to six major names might be wiped off from Pakistan's team sheets. In ODIs, Pakistan's last series was against Sri Lanka on their home turf, which they won 3-0.

Shaheen Afridi took over as the ODI captain and has led them by example against South Africa, claiming a 2-1 victory.
