After a clean sweep of the West Indies in Multan, Pakistan has surpassed India in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Team Rankings.

After winning the series against the West Indies in Multan, Babar Azam’s team moved up to No. 4 in the latest MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Team Rankings.

Pakistan was ranked fifth in the world before the series began, with a rating of 102. However, their 3-0 clean sweep of the Windies has vaulted them to No. 4 in the world rankings, with a rating of 106, leaving India in fifth place with a rating of 105.

In the 50-over format, Pakistan has had a fantastic couple of years. With the exception of a hiccup against England away from home, they have faced and defeated all comers, including a 2-1 series victory over Zimbabwe and South Africa.

When they arrived in Pakistan for the first time since 1998, they defeated Australia by the same margin. The West Indies had no chance against Pakistan, as they were thrashed by 3-0.

This period of resurgence has occurred under the leadership of Babar Azam, who has led Pakistan in all formats of the game by example. With his century against the West Indies in the first match, he became the only batter to score three consecutive ODI hundreds twice, having done so in 2016 as well.

He also broke the global record for most consecutive 50+ scores (9) in men’s international cricket across all forms with a fifty in the second ODI.

Along the way, the top-ranked ODI batter has amassed a supporting cast. Imam-ul-Haq is one of them, and he’s been on a roll lately, with seven 50-plus scores in his previous seven ODIs to show for it. Shaheen Afridi, the ICC Men’s Player of the Year, has led a group of bowlers that includes Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Imad Wasim, and Shadab Khan, among others.

Before Pakistan’s next ODI series in August, India will have an opportunity to climb the rankings by playing England and the West Indies (three ODIs each).
